Carving gear uses stainless steel metric hardware that is sometimes hard to find at the local hardware store. Here is a guide to a few online resources for boot and binding parts.

You can buy stiffer T-handle hex wrenches at Home Depot.
Always use stainless steel, or something as hard as stainless. Aluminum is too soft.
316 stainless steel has more corrosion resistance than 18-8. However, the black anodized bolts from the nutty company seem to be even more corrosion resistant, and harder than 316.
Snowboard gear uses metric screws and bolts with the coarse thread pitch:

M5:0.8mm M6:1.0mm M8:1.25mm M10:1.5mm
Replacement heels for step-in systems come with M5 mm screws with a Phillips or pozidriv head that is highly susceptible to stripping. You can replace them with hex socket cap screws. The hex socket cap will take a 4 mm hex key.
To avoid stripping screws, get all the snow out of the socket. You can use Turkey skewers, ice picks, or smaller hex wrenches.

The Nutty Company, 10.9 heat treated alloy. Seems to be stronger than 316 stainless.
